This logo is created based on a place - Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Gaya Street has become a popular hangout for both locals and tourists due to its vibrant and bustling commercial activities - the main activity being the weekend night markets. Gaya Street is also known as Kota Kinabalu’s Chinatown because of the many Chinese restaurants surrounding it.

 

In the logo, I included the area's prominent Chinese arch and glowing lanterns. I also added some stalls to represent the main attraction of the area.

For the animation, I includedthe timeline of daytime going to night time with the appearance of the moon and the colour of the background getting darker. When night comes, the canopies are set up and the lanterns are lit. This idea expresses the construction of Gaya Street from the beginning till the end which can also convey the rich history of the area. Last but not least, I made the lanterns swing briefly before the animation ends to give viewers the feeling of a mildly-windy night spent at Gaya Street.
